Reading Club Rules

Kids of all ages (& all reading-levels) are encouraged to participate in the reading and logging of books or hours in order to earn prizes and a club certificate; registration is required to join this portion of the club.  Registration starts Monday June 2nd; last day to join is Monday June 23rd.

To reach the club goals and receive a certificate and prizes, you must read & log either 15 books or 15 hours; use the blue Title Log or red Time Log depending on which route you choose.  Only one certificate and one of each prize will be given out to participants who meet these club goals; no other awards or extra prizes will be given for reading beyond the club goals.  But of course we encourage you to please extend your personal reading goals and keep reading throughout the summer for your own pleasure and literacy enhancement!

You do not have to read “AR” books for this Summer Reading Club.  If you choose to use the 15-hour Time Log, you may pick out books of any level; no matter what level the books are, you will still be putting in the effort towards 15 hours of reading time and accomplishing the goal.  However, if you choose to use the 15-books Title Log, you must read books at or near your reading level!  Quickly reading 15 books below your normal level in order to hurry up and fill in your Title Log will not count.  Also, coming to the library and just writing down book titles on your log will not be allowed.

The books you use for this reading club must be library books checked out of the library and actually read in order to count towards your reading goal.  These check-outs will be seen and tracked in our computer system and count towards our library circulation stats.  If you cheat on the club rules, you are cheating yourself and your literacy development.  Remember, let’s keep the Summer Reading Club fun & fair for all who participate.

The Summer Reading Club runs from Monday June 2nd – Monday June 30th.  After you’ve completed the club reading goals, please turn in your log to Ms. Tracy, the Children’s Librarian.  Monday June 30th is the very last day to turn in your log for prizes and a certificate.  Your reading log will be given back to you if you’d like to keep it for your personal scrapbook.

The Children’s Department of the Paris Public Library would like to thank our wonderful sponsors, listed below, for supporting our 2008 Summer Reading Club and providing fun prizes for our community kids!  Here’s what you will earn from our sponsors if you register, read and achieve the club goals:
